Bellwood Cottages near Nottingham Road in KwaZulu Natal
The cottages are located on a 585-acre stud farm with some of the most impressive walks and wide-open spaces that KwaZulu Natal has to offer. Children are welcome! Farm life provides considerable entertainment with an abundance of farmyard animals and ‘goings-on’ to keep them out of mischief. A two and a half kilometer ramble brings you to the quaint village of Nottingham Road which forms a central part of the famous arts and crafts Midlands Meander and has some of the oldest pubs in the province. For those with a sporting inclination, tennis and golfing facilities can be pre-arranged.A tranquil country retreat is not all that Bellwood has to offer! On the farm, a ‘cast’ away from the cottages, are two dams, one a spacious 16 acres and the other a smaller five acres in size. The larger dam is 30 feet deep at the wall and is liberally stocked with rainbow trout, while the smaller dam is filled with both rainbow and brown trout. The aim is to satisfy the keen fisherman and the sizes of the trout range from one to nine pounds. The larger dam also sports five rowing boats. The farm is very close to a well-equipped fly fishing shop and Nottingham Road village boasts a local butcher who is available to smoke all your catches. Pre-booked trout fishing lessons, hiring of rods on request.
Our self-catering cottages are a leisurely four hour drive from Johannesburg and two hours from Durban. The seven cottages are situated on a working stud farm in the heart of the breathtaking KwaZulu-Natal Midlands. All the cottages are superbly equipped for self-catering.
We are able to cater to everyone's desires from large family groups of up to 15 in our quaint double storey cottages on the banks of a well stocked trout dam to our delightful secluded thatch honeymoon cottage. Bellwood represents the best you can find in personalised farm service including roaring fires, tea, coffee, bedding, electric blankets, stove, fridge, a microwave oven, a TV and braai facilities. All cottages on the dam have the "Hotel Bouquet" DSTV channels

We are very close to a well-equipped flyfishing shop and Nottingham road village boasts a local butcher who is available to smoke all your catches. Pre-booked trout fishing lessons, hiring of rods and float tubes on request. Rod fee of R80 per day per fisherman is applicable.

With seven cottages we are able to cater to everyone’s desires from large family groups in charming two storey cottages to a quaint and secluded thatch roofed honeymoon cottage. Pamper yourself in front of a log fire or enjoy freshly caught trout on the braai / barbeque.
The cottages all have open fires, are serviced daily and fully equipped with linen, electric blankets, microwave ovens, fridges, televisions and braai / barbeque facilities.
The family cottages are on the banks of a well-stocked trout dam with a second dam also well stocked for the keen fisherman. Fishing lessons and the hiring of rods are available on request.
There is a 16 acre dam and a 5 acre dam on Bellwood. The dams are stocked twice a year with 9 inch and 1.5kg brown and rainbow trout.
The Bellwood trout dams are used for the Nottingham Road Land Rover Sponsored Trout Fishing Competitions. Rowing boats are provided for the leisure and pleasure of Bellwood guests.
The hiring of rods and fishing lessons can be arranged. Sorry - No day visitors or fishermen.
Bellwood is the home to numerous bird species. A record of birds seen on Bellwood is kept and provided to guests.
Bellwood offers spectacular walks and is the home to a large variety of indigenous flora and fauna. Many are labeled for guests convenience.
There are two graded walks ranging from a 2km easy walk to a 5km more strenuous walk with maps provided for guests.
We have four golf courses within easy reach of Bellwood – Mooi River course, Bosch Hoek, Howick Golf Club,and Sakabula Golf Club. Games can be arranged through Bellwood.
Bellwood Stud is a working stud that breeds and stables race horses. Whilst the guests enjoy the stud atmosphere, only experienced jockeys ride these horses. There are horse-riding facilities close to Bellwood and we can arrange bookings on request. Prior notice is required.
MIDLANDS MEANDER ATTRACTIONS:
The Midlands Meander is situated in the countryside of the uMgungundlovu district, one of eight regions of the Zulu Kingdom. The Meander is a country route winding through a number of small villages which offers visitors a rich experience in historic and cultural diversity. It has become the home to many artists and has the added attraction of the opportunity to visit the many arts and crafts galleries.
There are wide open spaces for children to run wild, get dirty and have fun. There is also a children’s playground to entertain them for hours.
There is never a dull moment and city kids can experience the excitement of foals and calves being born and see how mielies / maize and cabbages are planted and harvested. The farm is a magical place for kids with ducks, chickens, horses and cows.
Fishing and boating is available for children under parental supervision. Horse riding and fishing lessons can be arranged on request but prior notice is required.
We offer wedding and conference facilities for hire.
WEDDINGS & CONFERENCES:
A number of small exceptional weddings have been held at Bellwood. One such wedding the guests had a picnic using hay bales. Small conferences (12 – 16 people) are held at Bellwood with all conferencing facilities available for use.
