Beautifully decorated double and twin en suite rooms with individual, private entrances from the large garden. Each room offers hospitality tray, bar fridge, heater/fan, personal toiletries and has daily maid service. TVs are available in some rooms but should be requested when booking.

This is the perfect way to start each day in the mountains.

Cathkin Cottage is located approximately 3.1/2 hours from Johannesburg and 2 hours from Durban – an easy drive on all tarred roads. The nearest town is Winterton and the bed and breakfast is 25 kilometers into the mountain from there - the view when driving towards the mountains is truly breath-taking. Cathkin Cottage is at the entrance to a small private village where peace and tranquillity with clear mountain air will make your stay the ultimate in relaxation. Our park-like garden is a blaze of colour throughout the year and you are welcome to wonder around and ‘smell the flowers’ whilst looking up at the mountain overhead.

The Central Drakensberg’s hiking and walking trails start nearby at Monks Cowl Conservation area, with some of the trails starting at the cottage itself.

Although the bed and breakfast does not provide self-catering facilities there is a braai/picnic area under shady trees in a quiet corner of the garden where you are welcome to relax and enjoy the clear mountain air both day and evening. Here you will see many beautiful birds and hear the sounds of South African nature.

There is a good choice of restaurants, tea gardens and coffee shops within a few minutes of your accommodation, all offering excellent value for money meals.

There are many interesting things to see and do and places to visit. This is great place to relax, laze under a tree with a book, enjoy a refreshing swim after a walk in the mountains and enjoy the outstanding beauty of this very special part of SA. For those wishing to explore a little Cathedral Peak, Giants Castle – with the only San museum in the world, the Amphitheatre and lots more are all within easy reach for day trips.
