Tendele Hutted Camp is situated in one of the most picturesque settings in the country, with a view of the world famous Amphitheatre from every bungalow. This self catering camp can accommodate up to 400 guests. A central lounge for visitors is situated adjacent to the reception office.

Tendele Hutted self catering Camp

Situated below the sandstones of Dooley, amidst yellowwood forests and protea savannah, Tendele Hutted self catering Camp is the main accommodation camp at the Royal Natal National Park. From here, you can hear the rumbling sound of the Tugela after a heavy storm, a thrilling experience indeed.

The camp comprises of 26 self-contained chalets (with own cooks), which accommodate about two or four people each.

Tendele Self Catering Lodge

You can also find accommodation in one of the two 6-bed cottages or the lusciuos Tendele Lodge, which is located exclusively away from the main Camp. Tendele Lodge comprises of a comfortable lounge, equipped kitchen and three bedrooms with en-suite bathrooms. Open your window to the breathtaking view of the famous Amphitheatre.

Above the (approximately) 5 km long Amphitheatre, sits the Mont-aux-Sources, where the Orange River starts its 2000 km (1242.80 miles) long journey westwards accross South Africa to the Atlantic Ocean. A resident cook is available to prepare exquisite meals from the supplies brought by the visitors.

Camping Facilities

Royal Natal National Park has also two camping grounds: Mahai and Rugged Glen. Mahai comprises of 120 large campsites along Mahai River with glorious mountains constituting the background. Half of the sites have electric plug points and barbecue stands and the other half without electricity shares barbecue facilities. The Mahai campsite is has five modern ablution blocks with hot baths and showers, flush toilets, dishwashing facilities and laundry machines.

Rugged Glen, set seclusively on the eastern side of the Royal National Park, has twenty campsites with electric plug points, shared cold water taps, ablution facilities with hot baths and showers, flush toilets and dishwashing facilities. There are no laundry facilities.
